Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Transcrip collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our real-time browser-based transcription service.
Last updated: April 2026
1. Information We Collect
When you use Transcrip, we process audio through a real-time transcription provider only during active sessions. This audio is sent directly to the transcription service and is not stored on our servers. Transcrip does not retain, log, or access your audio recordings or the resulting transcript text.
2. How We Store Your Transcripts
On the free tier, all transcript data is stored locally in your browser using browser-native storage. No transcript content is uploaded to any server. On paid plans, users can opt in to the encrypted vault: transcripts are encrypted client-side using AES-GCM before upload. Transcrip holds only the encrypted ciphertext and has no access to the decryption key, meaning we cannot read your vault notes even if compelled to.
3. Account Information
We store only the minimum account metadata required to operate your account, kept in our managed PostgreSQL database. This includes your email address, account creation date, subscription status, and usage counters. We do not collect profile photos, phone numbers, or social media links.
4. Technical Telemetry and Analytics
We collect limited, anonymized technical telemetry to maintain service quality and detect bugs. This may include browser type, device category, session duration, and error rates. We do not track individual users across sessions, and no transcript content is ever included in telemetry data.
5. Third-Party Services
Transcrip relies on a small set of trusted third-party services: a real-time speech-to-text provider for transcription, a managed PostgreSQL database for account metadata, an email delivery provider for transactional messages, and cloud infrastructure providers for hosting. Each provider processes only the data necessary for their specific function. An AI summarization provider is used to generate short titles and descriptions for saved transcripts.
5a. AI Transcript Summarization
When you save a transcript, we send its text to our AI summarization provider only to generate a short title and description. The provider does not train on your content and does not retain it beyond the request. Transcrip does not store the transcript text on its servers during this process.
6. Your Data and Control
You retain full ownership of all content you create with Transcrip. Free-tier transcripts are stored only in your browser and can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser data. Paid-tier vault content can be managed through your account settings. You may export or permanently delete your vault data at any time.
7. Data Retention
Free-tier local data persists in your browser until you clear it. Paid-tier encrypted vault data is retained for as long as your account is active or until you delete it. Upon account deletion, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.
8. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information. The encrypted vault uses zero-knowledge AES-GCM encryption, meaning the encryption and decryption happen entirely in your browser. Transcrip servers never receive your plaintext transcript content.
9. Children and Minors
Transcrip is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the service or by email. Continued use of Transcrip after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
