Transcribe a YouTube video (or any tab) to text
In Transcrip, choose the “Browser tab only” audio source, share the tab that is playing the video, and press play: the transcript appears live as the video plays. It needs no microphone and no install — just Chrome or Edge on a desktop computer.

Step by step
- Open the video in a Chrome or Edge tab.
- In another tab, open transcrip.app and sign in.
- Set the audio source to “Browser tab only”.
- Press record, choose the video's tab, and make sure “Also share tab audio” is on.
- Play the video. Stop sharing — or press stop — when it ends; the transcript is saved automatically.
Things to know
Transcription happens in real time, so a 20-minute video takes 20 minutes and counts 20 minutes of your plan. Transcrip does not download videos or accept uploaded files.
Tab audio capture is supported in desktop Chrome and Edge. Safari and Firefox do not share tab audio, and phones cannot share another app's audio.
